Bosnia Photographs (The first part) - Joe Singleton
Thirty years ago Bosnia and Herzegovina was emerging from war and trying to make sense of, and come to terms with, war crimes and genocide inflicted upon them by their neighbours. In spite of the decades that have passed, scars are still evident, and the unified kinship of the former Yugoslav states seems a distant memory.
Much more recently, the down-playing of horrendous acts in Palestine by Israel recalls the indifference and denial of wrongdoing by parties such as Republika Srpska in the Bosnian conflict. A cultural amnesia in the west has meant lessons which should have been learned during conflicts such as the breakup of Yugoslavia are being almost instantaneously forgotten.
